The story behind this project
The project was for KoolKanya, a women-centric online community platform designed to help women connect and seek guidance in their professional journeys. Users engage by sharing thoughts, commenting, and initiating discussions within the community.
However, a noticeable drop in user engagement occurred, many users struggled to find and connect with peers who shared similar interests. This difficulty in forming relevant connections led to growing frustration within the community. As a result, engagement levels dropped significantly, with users feeling isolated and eventually leaving the platform due to the lack of meaningful interactions. Addressing this disconnect became a critical focus for improving the user experience.
About KoolKanya
KoolKanya is an Indian women-centric online community and career platform that empowers women by providing career guidance, resources, and opportunities to connect with like-minded professionals. The platform aims to bridge the gap between women and career growth by offering access to mentors, learning modules, and peer networking. Their mission is to help women navigate their professional lives confidently and build meaningful careers.
Why was this problem a priority ?
The platform experienced a significant drop in user engagement. Upon investigating, it was found that users were frustrated due to difficulties in finding and connecting with peers who shared their interests. Many users were reluctant to connect with others who had incomplete profile details, assuming they were inactive. This issue was compounded by the fact that a large number of users had only 20% of their profile information completed.
As a result,
Users faced challenges in building networks and finding like-minded individuals on the platform.
To maintain an active, interactive, and trustworthy platform, it became essential to encourage and remind users to complete their profile details.
What does the User profile page have?
The User profile page on the platform plays a crucial role in user engagement. It includes sections like education, work experience, skills, social media links, a profile picture, and a bio. Having complete and detailed profiles helps users connect based on shared interests, making it easier to build meaningful relationships within the community.

So, who are the users ?

What we learnt from our chats
The user interviews aimed to understand behaviour and uncover pain points in completing profile pages. These common statements from the interviews revealed the main issues users face when filling out their profiles.

Turning insights into actions
The user interviews focused on understanding the behaviour of users with incomplete profile pages. We identified several issues and uncovered pain points users faced while filling out their profile information.

So, lets re-define the problem statement here
How might we ...
-
Encourage and motivate users to complete their profiles by providing timely reminders.
-
Make profile questions clearer and more concise to reduce user confusion and save time
It all starts with a great idea - Here’s mine
During the solution development phase, we explored different ways to notify users on the homepage, guided by insights from the user interviews.
Finally, we decided to implement "Reminder Cards" to address the problem.
So, what is a Reminder card?
The Reminder card appears as users scroll through the homepage, showing up after every 15–20 cards. Each Reminder card contains a single question that the user hasn’t yet answered on their profile page. Once the user provides the information, it is automatically updated on their profile.
These are the key features of the Reminder card:
-
Personalization: Each card addresses the user by name and presents one question at a time.
-
Progressive Disclosure: Instead of asking multiple questions at once, the card presents them one by one, reducing user effort.
-
Minimal Effort: The questions are designed to require minimal effort from users, with options that don’t require manual typing.
-
Visually Engaging: Each card is designed to stand out in the feed with a visually appealing layout.
-
Simplified Questions: The questions were further simplified based on user feedback.
-
Progress Bar: A visible progress bar on the homepage shows the percentage of profile completion, motivating users to finish it.

What I learnt from this project
This project allowed me to explore various methods of nudging and notifying users. Through user interviews, I gained deeper insights into user behavior and learned the importance of designing solutions that align with these behaviors. I also developed a better understanding of the considerations required when designing for a diverse audience with varying abilities. Overall, I’m proud to have contributed to the career development of women in India through this project.
